Beware of the Inquisition—the Eternal War between Love and Hate—the Choice Between Good and Evil.

Beware of the Inquisition—the Eternal War between Love and Hate—the Choice Between Good and Evil.

By John Schloss, Ph.D.

The roots of Christianity and the Inquisition—the passion of Christ and his crucifixion driven by the Pharisees—go back to two great Jewish rabbis or teachers. Rabbi Shammai taught that the rules were most important. Those who break the rules must suffer punishment, the ultimate punishment being death. Rabbi Hillel taught that love was most important. Love your neighbor and others (beginning with God and yourself); the rules are just details on how to achieve this end. The Pharisees were followers of Shammai (Bet Shammai). Jesus, as a rabbi, taught the perspective of Hillel (Bet Hillel). Paul the Apostle, who started life as Saul, was a Pharisee who persecuted Christians before meeting Jesus on the road to Damascus. The Spanish Catholic Church between 1478 and 1834 succumbed to the dark side of Shammai’s perspective and persecuted Jews, Protestants, Muslims, Arians, Gnostics, Freemasons, witches, Adamites, Donatists, Pelagians, Priscillianists, and anyone holding theological beliefs that differed in any way from accepted Church dogma, before refocusing on Jesus’ teachings of love, forgiveness, and tolerance. Love must always triumph over hate if we are to achieve the divine and overcome our base inclination toward hate. Hate is the disease. Love is the medicine that can cure evil and bring salvation.
